Process / Design / User Experience Guy
As an individual: I am a husband, father, practitioner of health and fitness, musician, backpacker, ultimate player, mountain biker. I’m an even-keeled, honest guy who doesn’t get riled up about things, but (thanks to my dad) I also have a strong work ethic and am comfortable getting my hands dirty.
As a professional: I am trained and experienced in print design, advertising and branding, but also have many years of experience in UX/UI design and implementation. While I don’t code back-end languages, I understand how they work and that the front-end system needs to take that into consideration. Apart from designing (and all that entails), I’m also comfortable building a website with HTML, CSS, jQuery and some PHP or Javascript, if needed. Along the way, I’ve also gotten my hands into HTML emails, Wordpress theming and Flash/AS3 (though I’m not sure that’s so useful anymore).

My first job out of school was at a well-known design agency north of Chicago. I learned some great lessons on refining branding systems and the value of making lemonade out of lemons.
After being part of a bulk layoff less than a year after moving to Chicago, my wife and I narrowed our options down to A) Starting a geo-cache adventure company in Colorado, B) Through-hiking the A.T. or C) Opening a coffee shop. Coffee won out.
BCN provided opportunities to manage, design and develop online annual reports, in addition to designing print annual reports, identity systems, websites, advertising, promotional and event materials.
My time at GFX was spent distilling extremely complex asset management and business intelligence systems into usable experiences for a diverse set of user demographics.
Working in e-commerce opened my eyes to the value of paying close attention to analytics and testing. And funnels… a whole lot of funnels.
I've designed experiences for health and wellness, patient advocacy, user engagement & literacy, and personal healthcare management.
